Islamabad, Oct 23: Cabinet Approves Enhanced Cybercrime Regulations to Regulate Social Media Content. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency’s (NCCIA) regulations to take tough measures against cybercrime actors, propaganda, harassment, and people who disseminate misinformation on social media have been authorized by the federal cabinet.
Cybercriminals, particularly those who attack public people and state organizations, may be sentenced to five to fifteen years in prison and hefty fines. The NCCIA is now fully operational and has the power to work with international groups to combat cybercrime, following 11 months of development.
In December 2023, the caretaker government created the agency. The Cybercrime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been eliminated due to the new regulations, and its officers will now work for the NCCIA for a year.
