Islamabad, JULY24: Following the discovery of multiple health and safety infractions by city health inspectors, a Pakistani restaurant in Scarborough has been temporarily closed.

Toronto Public Health on Monday issued a closure notice for Patna Kabab House, located at 1885 Lawrence Ave. E., citing six violations. The DineSafe website of Toronto Public Health states that

Under the Food Premises Regulation, one or more serious violations were found that pose an immediate risk to public health and cannot be fixed during an inspection. Patna Kabab House, which is well-known for its curries, biryani, and bihari kebabs, was cited for two serious infractions, two serious infractions, and two minor infractions.

“Food premise maintained in a manner adversely affecting sanitary operation” was one of the key breaches cited, prompting inspectors to issue a summons and a health hazard order. Additional action is still pending as of Wednesday.

Failure to protect food from adulteration or contamination was the other major problem. The restaurant also had to deal with two serious issues: a lack of precautions against bug infestations and insufficient cleaning of the facility’s surfaces. All of these problems contributed to the restaurant’s closure.

Two small problems were also found during the inspection: the equipment surfaces were not adequately sterilized and the food-handling area was not maintained hygienically. However, Toronto Public Health claims that these small violations were not the reason behind the restaurant’s closure. They also said that after Patna Kabab House has addressed the health risks that prompted its closure, it would undergo another inspection.
