Islamabad, Oct 9: CDA Initiates Bidding Process for Two Major Road Projects in Islamabad. Later this month, significant infrastructure renovations are anticipated to begin with the goal of reducing traffic at two important city intersections.
Habib Construction Services and Maakson Engineering Corporation were the winning bidders for the Serena Chowk on Khayaban-i-Suharwardi and the PTCL Chowk on 9th Avenue, which were put out to financial bids by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Tuesday.
The PTCL Chowk project drew a bid of Rs. 4.1 billion, while the Serena Interchange received bids of Rs. 4.2 billion. The notice inviting tender (NIT) for the Serena project was initially set at Rs. 4.086 billion, and both businesses’ bids exceeded this amount. Maakson’s proposal for PTCL Chowk was 9.9 percent over the NIT, whereas Habib Construction’s offer was 3.9 percent over this amount.
CDA officials stressed the importance of these projects, which are intended to relieve the extreme traffic congestion that both intersections experience, especially during rush hour. This is the first real action the current management has done to address the problem, in spite of earlier declarations. After the Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference in Islamabad on October 15 and 16, work is expected to start and be finished in six months.
Shehbaz Sharif, the former prime minister, had delayed the Serena Interchange project last year by refusing to attend its inauguration. In order to support the revised financial forecasts, CDA officials pointed to major architectural modifications and new requirements as the cause of the rising expenses. For both projects, the agency has budgeted monies, thus there are no financial barriers to their completion.
