Islamabad, 30 April 2025: Charli XCX has been nominated for a prestigious Ivor Novello Award, as the 2025 shortlist celebrates a wide array of songwriters across genres and generations.

British pop trailblazer Charli XCX was nominated for Best Contemporary Song, highlighting her ongoing influence on modern pop.

Her nomination comes as part of a strong year for female artists, with Dua Lipa, Raye, and Lola Young also featured prominently.

Young leads all nominees with three nominations, but Charli’s inclusion marks a significant moment for a songwriter who has often balanced commercial success with experimental flair.

The Ivors, which honour songwriting and composition, return to London on 22 May for their 70th edition.

With 74 nominees this year – two-thirds of them first-timers – the list also includes acts like Fontaines DC, Ghetts, Myles Smith, and Laura Marling.

Among the more nostalgic recognitions, Wham!’s Last Christmas received a posthumous nod for George Michael as one of PRS for Music’s top five most performed songs of 2024.

The evergreen holiday hit, originally released in 1984, has topped the UK charts during the last two Christmas seasons.

Bashy was nominated for How Black Men Lose Their Smile, while U2 became the first Irish songwriters to receive the Academy Fellowship honour.

Tom Gray, chair of The Ivors Academy, described the ceremony as “the most joyful celebration of music making in the calendar,” and praised the diversity and creativity of this year’s nominees.
