Islamabad, Mar 15, 2025: Android users now have an alternative digital assistant, as the latest beta version of the ChatGPT application allows it to take over Google’s Gemini.

OpenAI’s newest update lets users seamlessly integrate the chatbot into their device’s main functions.

By enabling this feature, users can summon ChatGPT using standard Android navigation, replacing Google Assistant.

Those utilizing the three-button navigation system can activate the chatbot by pressing and holding the home button.

Meanwhile, users who prefer gesture-based controls can launch ChatGPT by swiping up and holding from either bottom corner of the screen.

Additionally, if configured, pressing and holding the power button will also trigger the chatbot.

When activated, ChatGPT will immediately enter voice mode, allowing users to interact via spoken commands.

However, it currently lacks support for a wake phrase, like “Hey Google” for Gemini.

This limitation arises due to the requirement for specialized APIs, which are exclusively accessible to trusted, pre-installed applications.

At present, there is no confirmed date for the full public rollout of this feature. Consequently, Android users who are not part of OpenAI’s beta testing program may need to wait for broader availability.

Despite this, the ability to set ChatGPT as the default voice assistant on Android provides users with greater flexibility and choice in managing their digital assistant preferences.
