ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 9: Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb met with Charge d’affaires Shi Yuanqiang and other representatives of the People’s Republic of China Embassy.

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb met with Charge d’affaires Shi Yuanqiang and other representatives of the People’s Republic of China Embassy.

The finance minister emphasized the solid bilateral ties between the two countries while extending a cordial welcome to the Chinese delegation. He outlined some of the most recent improvements to Pakistan’s economy, such as more foreign exchange reserves, lower inflation, and better tax collection.

The Minister also discussed state-owned companies (SOEs), major energy sector reforms, and ongoing privatization initiatives. He emphasized the importance of export-led growth and reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to draw in more foreign direct investment.

Recalling his recent trip to China, Aurangzeb said he had very fruitful discussions about ideas to improve economic cooperation between the two nations with the Minister of Finance and other officials. Minister of Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari stated that Pakistan’s government is grateful for Chinese investment in the country’s energy sector and that it is putting several reforms into place to deal with the problems in the sector.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of State for Finance & Revenue Ali Pervaiz Malik, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Muhammad Ali on Power, and Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari.
