Islamabad, Sep 21: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently met with a high-level Chinese delegation led by Minister of Political and Legal Affairs Chen Mingguo to enhance cooperation in counterterrorism, cross-border collaboration, and the fight against smuggling and drug trafficking.

During the discussions, the two sides considered conducting joint police and paramilitary exercises in Gilgit-Baltistan or Xinjiang and agreed on training Gilgit-Baltistan police officers at the Xinjiang Police Academy.

Chen emphasized Xinjiang’s extensive counterterrorism experience, suggesting that Pakistan could benefit from this expertise, and he extended an invitation for Naqvi to visit Xinjiang.

Naqvi underscored the significance of Pakistan’s 600-kilometer border with Xinjiang, highlighting the importance of strengthening ties in light of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The Chinese delegation included key officials from the Xinjiang Police Academy and other law enforcement agencies, while Pakistani representatives included Interior Secretary Khuram Ali Agha and other senior officials.

In a related security conference held in Lianyungang, Chinese Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong announced that China trained 2,700 officers last year and plans to train an additional 3,000 from various countries in the coming year.

He noted that Chinese police consultants would also be dispatched to assist nations in enhancing their law enforcement capabilities. The conference saw participation from representatives of law enforcement from 122 countries, including Pakistan.
