Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to visit India from August 18 to 20 to participate in the 24th round of talks between the special representatives of China and India on the long-standing boundary dispute, says the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The talks, part of an established dialogue mechanism, are aimed at reducing tensions and exploring measures to maintain peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Relations between the two neighbors have remained strained since the deadly 2020 clashes in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley, followed by multiple rounds of military and diplomatic negotiations that yielded only partial disengagement.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Yi’s visit underscores Beijing’s willingness to keep communication channels open and advance dialogue on the boundary question. The visit will also provide an opportunity to review broader bilateral relations, trade ties, and regional security concerns.

Indian officials have yet to confirm the exact agenda of the talks, but diplomatic sources in New Delhi indicated that New Delhi will push for restoration of status quo ante along the LAC, calling for complete disengagement at all friction points.

Observers believe the upcoming dialogue will be a key test of whether both sides can stabilize ties amid continuing tensions in border areas and strategic competition in the wider Indo-Pacific region.

The special representatives’ mechanism, established in 2003, has been one of the highest-level channels between the two countries to address the boundary issue, though a final settlement has remained elusive.
