Colombian President Gustavo Petro has ordered the establishment of a Colombian embassy in the Palestinian city of Ramallah, according to Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo’s announcement to journalists. Murillo emphasized that this decision is the next step following President Petro’s previous actions, including recalling the Colombian ambassador from Tel Aviv earlier this month and expressing discontent over Israeli actions in Gaza. President Petro’s stance has led to a response from Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, who accused him of being “antisemitic and full of hate.”

This move by Colombia comes amidst broader international developments, such as the United Nations General Assembly’s recent endorsement of a Palestinian bid for full UN membership and ongoing conflicts in the region.
