Islamabad, Nov 30: Deadline for VPN Registration Ends Today to Maintain Service Access. The PTA has till today to prohibit unregistered VPNs. As of right now, PTA has not received a response to their request to extend the deadline from November 30.

According to PTA sources, the Ministry of Interior has the authority to decide whether to extend the VPN registration deadline. Although there is currently no confirmation, PTA states that there is still a chance that the deadline will be extended.

Since the deadline could result in significant losses for the online working community, the IT sector, independent contractors, and other interested parties have called for an extension. P@SHA estimates that the VPN ban might cost Pakistan’s IT sector $1 billion.

According to the PTA, there are currently over 27,000 VPNs registered, and these VPNs can “help improve cybersecurity” in the nation. It is important to note that VPNs automatically safeguard your cybersecurity and don’t require further registration to function.

Nonetheless, the PTA maintains that “national security and data protection” require VPN registration. If the deadline for VPN registration, which PTA set at November 30, is not extended, a crackdown on unregistered VPNs will start tomorrow.
