Islamabad, Dec 26: The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has unveiled an exciting new project aimed at boosting tourism in Islamabad. During a briefing with key stakeholders on Wednesday, Aftab ur Rehman Rana, Managing Director of PTDC, shared details of the initiative.
The new Islamabad Sightseeing Double-Decker Bus Service, a joint venture between PTDC and the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), is set to launch in January 2025. This service is designed to offer tourists a unique, eco-friendly way to explore Islamabad’s key landmarks and attractions. The double-decker buses will operate twice daily and offer convenient pick-and-drop services from major hotels in the city.
Mr. Rana highlighted that the project is a vital part of the government’s strategy to promote tourism as a significant contributor to economic growth. He emphasized that the service will not only enhance the tourist experience in Islamabad but also promote the city as a premier travel destination.
The second phase of the program will expand beyond the capital city with weekend sightseeing trips to historical and cultural sites like Taxila, Rohtas Fort, Katas Raj, Kallar Kahar, Khewra Salt Mines, Takht-e-Bahi, Murree, Patriata, and Peshawar. PTDC plans to collaborate with the private sector to broaden the scope of these tours.
This initiative is part of PTDC’s broader integrated tourism plan aimed at positioning Islamabad as a leading gateway for both domestic and international travelers. Mr. Rana expressed confidence that this project will significantly boost the city’s appeal and contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s tourism sector.
