Islamabad, Feb 26: Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, met with Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan at the Governor House in Lahore to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new avenues for cooperation between the two nations. The meeting, as per a press release issued by the Ethiopian Embassy, focused on enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, education, health, science, technology, and climate change.
During the discussion, Dr. Jemal emphasized Ethiopia’s strategic position as a gateway to Africa, reinforcing Pakistan’s “Look Africa and Engage Africa” policy. He highlighted the recent launch of Ethiopian Airlines in Karachi, with plans to expand its operations to Lahore soon. This initiative aims to improve business connections and foster stronger people-to-people ties between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
To further strengthen economic and trade relations, the Ambassador extended an invitation to Governor Khan to participate in the Single Country Exhibition of Pakistan in Addis Ababa, scheduled for May. The event is expected to provide Pakistani businesses with a platform to showcase their products and explore opportunities in the African market.
Governor Khan welcomed Dr. Jemal’s efforts in promoting bilateral relations and assured his full support in deepening cooperation between the two nations. The discussion also addressed the shared challenge of climate change, with both sides expressing interest in working together on environmental initiatives.
Governor Khan showed particular interest in Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative, launched by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, and conveyed his willingness to collaborate on similar projects in Punjab.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to fostering stronger diplomatic and economic relations, with a focus on sustainable development and mutual growth. The expansion of air connectivity, trade exhibitions, and climate cooperation are expected to serve as significant steps toward a more robust partnership between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
