Islamabad, Sep 24: In order to establish four Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan, a number of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions have partnered with the European Union (EU), Germany, and the British Council.

With funding from the EU’s Global Gateway program, this project seeks to modernize skills training in these areas by outfitting the centers with cutting-edge equipment, up-to-date curricula, and highly qualified teachers to satisfy the demands of the labor market.

The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), the British Council, and the German development agency GIZ are working together to implement the initiative, which is partially supported by the EU and the German government.

This initiative is a component of a larger plan to develop Pakistan’s TVET industry and provide job prospects for young people throughout the nation. Senior officials, including Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, the Secretary of Education for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, and Philipp Oliver Gross.

The Deputy Ambassador of the European Union, attended a signing ceremony to formally establish the agreements for these transformations. High-ranking members from NAVTTC and the TVET Sector Support Program, as well as provincial government representatives from Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were among the other noteworthy attendees.

Abdul Karim Tordher, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Technical Education, thanked Germany and Europe for their efforts to improve the TVET sector in the province during his speech. He underlined how these CoEs have the potential to grow into important centers for growth, research, and job opportunities for young people in the area.

Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, the secretary of education, complimented Germany and the EU for their ongoing assistance and said that these programs would give young people useful skills for better job possibilities, advancing the country. He emphasized how these Centers of Excellence support innovation in important economic sectors by connecting training to industry demands.

The EU Delegation to Pakistan’s Deputy Head, Philipp Oliver Gross, emphasized the value of empowering youth especially women through these enhanced TVET institutions. Pakistan’s kids are its greatest resource, and we must foster an environment that will enable them to reach their full potential, particularly for young women. Through TVET, the EU is dedicated to promoting equitable and sustainable growth, he said.

As centers for teacher training, research, and business incubation, the Centers of Excellence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to create new standards for contemporary technical education in Pakistan. It is anticipated that the initiative will improve the TVET industry as a whole and give young people in these provinces a lot of chances.

Leading figures from Balochistan, such as Chief Secretary of Gilgit Baltistan Abrar Ahmad Mirza and Minister of Education Raheela Durrani, also acknowledged the potential of these centers to revolutionize technical education and boost youth employment in their respective regions and expressed gratitude for the EU’s support.
