Islamabad, Aug 9: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has established a check post of Inland Revenue officers at district Battagram – Silk/Karakoram road to tariff areas of Abbottabad. In this regard, the FBR issued a notification on Thursday. The FBR has issued SRO to establish check posts with mobile squads on the routes originating from tax-exempt areas.
The check post has been established under section 40B of the Sales Tax Act. According to SRO.1193(I)/2024, the mobile squad of Inland revenue officers would intercept goods on which duties and taxes have not been paid while coming from non-tariff areas to tariff areas of Pakistan.
Documents pertaining to the items being transported that may be required by sales tax regulations must be carried with the vehicle transporting the commodities that were supplied from the tax-exempt zones.
The commodities will be taken by the officer as stated above with appropriate acknowledgment if the required documentation are not present or if there is a difference in them, according to the FBR. Within fifteen days of the seizure, notices to the owners of the goods and the vehicle requesting an explanation in order to avoid a penalty will be sent.
According to Article 246 of the Constitution, the “tax-exempt areas” are Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, border sustenance markets, and former tribal territories and any further places that might be advised, the FBR stated.
In order to verify the documentation of products arriving from tax-exempt territories such as Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and the former tribal areas, the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) constructed 16 inland revenue check stations in 2022. These check posts were manned by mobile teams.
