Islamabad, Dec 9: International visitors will have everything worth more than $1200 seized by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) under the proposed modifications to the e-baggage rules, 2006. In order to implement the authority granted to it by section 219 of the Customs Act, 1969 (IV of 1969), FBR has released the draft of a further amendment to the Baggage Rules, 2006.
A “commercial quantity” is defined in the proposed modifications draft as an amount of products valued at more than $1,200 that are imported primarily for trading or financial gain rather than for personal use or gift-giving.
When duty, taxes, and redemption fees are paid, the commercially brought products will not be released. Within seven days of the notification being published in the official Gazette, FBR has requested that any complaints or recommendations be submitted for the Board’s consideration.
