Islamabad, Dec 10: The Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has suspended the implementation of proposed amendments to the Customs baggage rules of 2006, effectively reversing a recently imposed ban on bringing more than one mobile phone into the country.
The chairman ordered the withdrawal of the proposed amendments, which had introduced restrictions on travelers bringing in multiple mobile phones. Under the existing 2006 rules, travelers are allowed to bring in two mobile phones.
Additionally, the chairman rescinded the proposed ban on commercial imports exceeding $1200 and directed that the amendments be reconsidered after consultations before being resubmitted.
This follows a notification issued by the FBR on Monday, which included the controversial ban on commercial quantities of goods and the restriction of one mobile phone for personal use.
