Islamabad, Nov 29: FDE Discontinues Two-Day Weekend for Schools and Colleges in Islamabad. All of the educational institutions in Islamabad that fall under the purview of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) will henceforth observe Saturday as a working day. Islamabad will only observe Sunday as a holiday.
This decision will take effect on November 30, 2024, and last until February 1, 2025, to compensate for the academic losses caused by the recent closures of schools and universities in the nation’s capital.
The letter, sent out on November 29, 2024, made clear that the closures were mostly caused by regular disturbances, such as political demonstrations. Notably, officials closed schools for a few days due to safety concerns during this month’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests.
Due to the substantial loss of teaching time caused by these disruptions, the FDE has temporarily switched to a six-day workweek schedule. This schedule must be followed within the officially announced times for all FDE-operating schools and institutions, whether urban and rural.
The directive, which was published with the FDE Director General’s consent, highlights how crucial it is to make up lost teaching hours in order to guarantee that students complete their annual academic goals.
Parents and other educational stakeholders have criticized the decision, voicing worries about how long-term political upheaval may affect children’ learning. It is anticipated that the extra working day will help minimize these setbacks while maintaining academic consistency.
