ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 15: Gohar Ejaz, a former caretaker federal minister, stated on Thursday that Pakistan might get orders for clothing and accessories from Western clothing companies worth about $5 billion in the next two weeks.

The former minister stated that there is just a two-week window of opportunity; after that, orders would be placed in Vietnam, Cambodia, or India.

“I think that Western clothing firms may relocate their $5 billion worth of clothes orders from Bangladesh to Pakistan. There is just a two-week window of opportunity; after that, orders will be sent to Vietnam, Cambodia, or India, according to a post made by Ejaz on X.

He went on to say that the present export supply chain tax laws and 16 cent energy rates make the local sector unviable. He stated that the government’s next steps should be to: (1) lower energy costs to nine cents; and (2) promptly permit the domestic supply chain for exports under SRO 1125.
By taking these actions, the textile sector will be able to fulfill these orders, potentially adding $5 billion in export revenue and 5 million employments to the nation’s GDP.
