Islamabad, Nov 20: Google has introduced a new memory feature for its Gemini chatbot, akin to OpenAI’s update for ChatGPT in February.
This new functionality, launched today, allows Gemini to remember users’ preferences and interests, enabling it to provide more accurate and personalized responses.
According to Google’s official notes, the memory feature will help Gemini offer more relevant answers tailored to each individual user.
Users can input the information they want Gemini to remember through regular conversations or a specific “Saved Info” page. On this page, users can manage their saved data by viewing, editing, or deleting it. Additionally, the chatbot will notify users when it utilizes their stored information.
Currently, the feature is available exclusively to English-speaking users with Gemini Advanced, part of the Google One AI Premium Plan. Google claims that this will result in “more consistent, predictable results without needing to repeat the same details.”
Advantages
This memory feature could benefit professionals by streamlining workflows, as it can remember project details, client preferences, or recurring tasks. It may also assist with scheduling, research, and drafting communications by recalling past interactions.
For students, the chatbot could offer a personalized tutoring experience by remembering learning progress, strengths, and weaknesses. It could help with research projects, remembering previously discussed sources and concepts, and even create personalized study guides based on prior interactions.
Privacy Concerns
However, this feature raises privacy concerns, as some users may not want to save their personal information with an AI chatbot, which could potentially be used for further training. To address these concerns, it is expected that users will have the option to enable or disable this feature, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
