Islamabad, Aug 29: According to the German Embassy in Islamabad, they are unable to handle the volume of student visa applications for the winter semester. Only the most eligible applications will therefore probably be processed.

Many students have had protracted delays in their immigration interviews in the past few weeks, despite having been accepted to German universities.

Students said that there had been issues with the embassy’s visa appointment system, which opened for winter semester enrollment on May 21. They asserted that only fast-track applications appear to be getting attention, and that appointments for conventional processing are either difficult to obtain or unavailable.

The embassy announced that it will probably only handle visa applications for the worthiest students because of the large number of applications and scarce resources. This lists people who have won outstanding academic awards or received public scholarships.

The embassy acknowledged that there is currently a shortage of German study visas despite the strong demand from Pakistani students. They gave their word that improvements are being made to their processing power.

The embassy stated that it is committed to resolving existing issues in order to better accommodate future applicants and expressed hope that the situation will improve in the forthcoming academic years.
