Islamabad, Nov 2: Government Sets Wheat Production Target at 33.58 Million Tons
The Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research (MNF&R),
The committee set production goals for Rabi Crops (2025–2025) and evaluated Kharif Crops (2025–25) performance.
A senior official stated that in order to achieve self-sufficiency,
the government suggested a goal area of 10.368 million hectares for the production of 33.58 million tons of wheat.
The provinces did, however, set lower production goals. Proposals from provincial governments
state that 9.263 million hectares will be the goal area for wheat production, yielding 27.92 million tons.
He said that in order to satisfy the federal government’s aims and guarantee a sufficient supply of wheat Wheat Production
for the next year, the meeting asked the provincial governments to put appropriate measures into place.
In addition, the FCA established output goals for a number of other commodities,
including chilies (56.8 thousand tons), tomatoes (658.7 thousand kilograms),
onions (2.55 million tons), potatoes (6.83 million tons), and gram (419.4 thousand tons).
According to the official, the meeting also examined Kharif Crops’ performance in 2024–2025 and learned
which represents an increase of 4.3 percent and 11.5 percent in area and production, respectively, over the FCA’s targets.
According to him, the predicted 9.079 million tons of rice would be produced in 2024–2025
over an area of 3.630 million hectares, representing an 18.5 percent increase in area and a 4.0 percent rise in production over the FCA’s targets.
An area of 7.48 thousand hectares is expected to yield 5.77 thousand tons of mash in 2024–2025,
representing an increase of 6.6 percent and 3.3 percent in area and production, respectively, over the previous year.
The Director General (DG) of the Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department (FSC&RD) told him
that the availability of certified seed for Rabi crops in 2024–2025 would continue to be good.
He added that the discussion also covered the topic of seed availability for Rabi crops.
during the Rabi season, Punjab and Sindh would experience a water deficit of almost 16 percent.
The first week of November 2024 will see a reassessment of the 31.136 MAF of water allotted to the provinces.
Overall, normal to below-average precipitation is anticipated in most regions of the nation,
especially in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, upper/central Punjab,
Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper/central Baluchistan,
who cited information from the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD).
Nevertheless, Sindh, southern Punjab, and Baluchistan shall experience above normal rainfall.
Nonetheless, there is expectation of nearly average precipitation for the nation in October and December.
Provincial agriculture department representatives, IRSA, PMD, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Zarai Taraqiati Bank Ltd (ZTBL),
National Fertilizer Development Center (NFDC), Agriculture Policy Institute (API),
Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department, Department of Plant Protection (DPP), Federal Water Management, Pakistan Oil Seed Board,
Pakistan Agriculture Storage, and Services Cooperation,
as well as a senior MNFS&R official and the chairman of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC)
and Services Corporation (PASSCO) also attended the meeting both in person and virtually.
