Although Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb declared during the budget’s closing argument that stationery items would continue to be free from sales tax, the government will nevertheless levy a sales tax on them.
The modified Finance Bill 2024 will levy sales tax on stationery items even though it was announced that the tax would no longer be applied to them. During the National Assembly’s Winding Up debate on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb declared that the sales tax exemptions for stationery have been preserved.
Sources, however, said that under the revised Finance Bill 2024, the FBR will charge sales tax on stationary goods.
