Islamabad, Apr 7, 2025: The Power Division’s spokesperson, Zafaryab Khan, has firmly dismissed rumors surrounding the cancellation of the recent electricity tariff concession, reaffirming that the government’s Power Relief Package remains intact and will be fully enforced.
Addressing a private media outlet on Sunday, Khan labeled the circulating reports as fabricated, misleading, and aimed at confusing the public.
He explained that some groups were deliberately misrepresenting the facts about the revised power tariffs, twisting technical information to create uncertainty.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a bid to provide immediate relief to electricity consumers and boost the struggling economy, announced a significant reduction of Rs7.41 per unit in power tariffs.
This Power Relief Package is part of a broader initiative to ease the financial burden on households during the ongoing summer season, when energy usage typically spikes.
Following the Prime Minister’s declaration, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) conducted a public hearing on April 4 to expedite the process of incorporating this relief into electricity bills.
Officials from NEPRA and the Power Division jointly presented detailed evidence showing the government’s long-standing planning and behind-the-scenes efforts to bring this measure to life.
The spokesperson confirmed that the Power Relief Package has already received the formal approval of the federal cabinet and will be applicable across all distribution companies nationwide.

He further confirmed that consumers are already witnessing relief on their electricity bills, with reductions averaging Rs7.41 and Rs7.69 per unit, as promised by the Prime Minister.
“Arguments over technical tariff categories are irrelevant when the average citizen is already feeling the impact of the reduction,” said Khan. He emphasized that recognition is due to the government for acting swiftly and decisively to deliver this benefit when it was most needed.
