Islamabad, Jan 29: The Federal Government has approved significant amendments to the NADRA Rules, 2002, under Section 44 of the NADRA Ordinance, 2000. These reforms aim to enhance inclusivity, streamline documentation, and cater to the needs of specific groups, particularly individuals with disabilities and organ donors.

A key highlight is the introduction of lifetime-valid National Identity Cards (NICs) for persons with disabilities. Both resident and non-resident Pakistani citizens officially recognized as “special persons” will receive NICs featuring a wheelchair symbol. NADRA will also issue Child Registration Certificates and Juvenile Cards with the same symbol for children with disabilities, ensuring their identification is recognized throughout their lives.

In another groundbreaking step, citizens who register as organ donors will receive NICs marked with a donor logo. Those who qualify as both special persons and organ donors will be issued a dual-status NIC, displaying both the wheelchair and donor symbols.

To support these initiatives, NADRA has introduced new schedules (VII, VIII, IX, and X), outlining the designs and formats for these updated identity cards and certificates.

These reforms reflect the government’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring easier access to essential services and official recognition for individuals with disabilities and organ donors. By providing lifetime-valid identity cards, NADRA is simplifying processes and promoting social responsibility across Pakistan.
