Islamabad, Dec 23: Parliamentary Secretary for the Cabinet Division, Syed Sajid Mehdi, urged Pakistanis to limit internet usage to essential tasks. Speaking to a private news channel, he emphasized that reducing time spent online could help alleviate internet traffic congestion.

He highlighted that Pakistan’s internet infrastructure currently operates at only 15 percent fiber capacity, significantly lower than India’s 45 percent, and is strained due to excessive use. Mehdi assured that efforts to improve the network are ongoing, with upgrades expected within three to four months.

Addressing the issue of slow internet speeds, he attributed it to population growth and urged citizens to practice disciplined internet use, avoiding unnecessary activities to reduce the burden on the system.

Mehdi dismissed reports of financial losses exceeding $1 million per hour from internet outages, stating that no formal complaints had been received. He reiterated that population growth and limited infrastructure are the main reasons for slow internet speeds, calling for responsible and purposeful online behavior.
