Islamabad, Nov 11: Grok AI Chatbot on X Set to Become Free for All Users, New Access Opportunity Unveiled. The social networking platform X, previously known as Twitter, might be making its Grok chatbot available for free to all users. Grok AI is essentially a competitor to ChatGPT on X, developed by Elon Musk’s AI enterprise, xAI. Until recently, it was available only to premium subscribers who paid for the service.
Over the weekend, enthusiastic users and diligent app researchers started to notice indications that a free version of Grok is becoming available in select areas, representing a notable increase in its accessibility.
Additionally, TechCrunch confirmed that users in New Zealand can now access the Grok chatbot for free. As reported by researcher Swak, the free version has usage restrictions: users are allowed to pose up to 10 questions every two hours using the full Grok-2 model and 20 questions every two hours with the smaller Grok-2 mini model. Additionally, users can only submit three image requests each day.
To gain free access to Grok, users need to have accounts that are at least seven days old and linked to a phone number. Since its debut in August, Grok-2 has included image generation features powered by Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 model, with recent enhancements enabling the model to analyze images as well.
Previously, these capabilities were restricted to Premium and Premium+ subscribers. The move to expand Grok’s availability to free users suggests that xAI is looking to broaden its user base and collect more feedback to enhance Grok’s performance, aiding it in competing with other leading AI models such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
