Islamabad, Oct 25: Health Risks Increase as Punjab Schools Change Timings Due to Severe Smog

In response to escalating health risks from worsening smog conditions, authorities in Punjab have announced new school timings across the province. The Punjab Environmental Protection Authority announced the revised schedule and accompanying guidelines on Wednesday.

Schools Change Timings Starting on October 28 and lasting through January 31, 2025, sessions will begin at 8:45 AM. To reduce exposure to outdoor pollution, school administrators have been directed to move student gatherings indoors.

In order to prevent exposure to contaminated air, the public is also advised to use masks, limit their outside activities, ensure that their cars are suitable for their intended use, and keep their windows and doors closed. To cut down on pollution, all fireworks activities have been prohibited until the end of January 2025.

According to the most recent IQAir data, Lahore has once again been named the most polluted city in the world, with the air quality index (AQI) skyrocketing to a dangerous level of 503. This is worse than it was in the past, which raises concerns about the people’ health.

In order to protect their health from the negative effects of extreme air pollution, doctors are advising people with respiratory disorders, such as asthma and allergies, to take additional precautions.
