Islamabad, Aug 6: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is being investigated for alleged mismanagement, ineptitude, or poor policies after 97 scholarship recipients went missing. For their studies, these students have visited Australia, Canada, the USA, the UK, and Europe.These students have either vanished or defaulted under the pretense of several overseas scholarship schemes, resulting in a loss of Rs 1.5575 billion in funds.

In particular, 97 students who were awarded scholarships and sent abroad have disappeared. Seventy students who were sent to Europe, the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, and other countries as part of the Overseas Scholarship Phase II program have vanished. For the European scholarship, the HEC spent Rs 830 million on educational costs; for students traveling to the USA, the amount spent was Rs 74.9 million.

and more than Rs 170 million for those going to the UK. In addition, Rs 7.7 million was used to cover the 70 students’ travel costs.Not only that, but five PhD scholarship recipients have vanished, three Fulbright scholars have vanished, and 19 students from the Hardship Phase I Master’s Degree Scholarship program have vanished.
