Islamabad, Feb 24: Google has quietly unveiled the pricing for Veo 2, its latest AI-powered video generation model, setting the cost at 50 cents per second of generated footage. This translates to $30 per minute or $1,800 for a full hour of AI-created content. The announcement comes as the tech giant continues to refine its AI video capabilities, offering a new tool for creators seeking high-quality, AI-driven visuals.

Jon Barron, a researcher at Google DeepMind, provided a striking comparison to traditional filmmaking costs, highlighting that Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame had a production budget of $356 million averaging around $32,000 per second of completed footage. In contrast, Veo 2’s cost per second remains significantly lower. However, the comparison is somewhat theoretical, as Veo 2 is currently optimized for shorter video clips, typically exceeding two minutes, rather than feature-length productions.

Google’s approach to AI video generation differs from its main competitor, OpenAI, which offers access to its Sora model through a ChatGPT Pro subscription at a flat monthly rate of $200. While OpenAI has focused on integrating its model within its broader AI ecosystem, Google has emphasized the enhanced technical capabilities of Veo 2, particularly in physics simulations, camera control, and improved visual fidelity. The model delivers sharper textures and greater motion clarity, making it a step up from its predecessor.

Veo 2 also introduces refined virtual camera movements, allowing for smoother transitions and greater precision in shot composition. This enhancement enables more dynamic storytelling by simulating complex cinematographic techniques typically reserved for high-end film production. While still in its early stages, Veo 2’s ability to generate AI-driven visuals with increasing realism underscores the growing potential of artificial intelligence in the video creation industry.
