Islamabad, Mar 11, 2025: HP is once again under fire as users report that a recent firmware update has rendered several LaserJet series printers inoperable, even when using genuine toner cartridges.

The problem stems from firmware version 20250209, which HP rolled out on March 4 to enhance security, address bugs, and improve overall performance.

However, shortly after installing the update, numerous users found their printers non-functional.

Frustrated customers have flooded HP’s support forums, with many stating that they have attempted to reinstall the toner and clean the cartridge contacts, but to no avail.

One business owner voiced their frustration, saying, “My printer, which I rely on for my small business, stopped working out of nowhere. I even replaced the toner, which cost me $60, but it didn’t fix the issue.”

HP previously faced criticism for blocking third-party ink through firmware updates, but this time, the updates seem to affect even its own products.

Acknowledging the problem, the company issued a statement:

“We are aware of a firmware issue impacting a limited number of HP LaserJet 200 Series printers, and our team is actively working on a resolution. Customers experiencing this issue can contact our support team at: https://support.hp.com.”

As of now, HP has not provided a timeline for a fix or disclosed the full extent of the issue.

While the firmware update’s release notes only referenced standard bug fixes and compliance updates, HP did not inform users of any modifications affecting toner recognition.

As a result, many customers have been left with non-functional printers and no immediate solution in sight.

This latest controversy adds to growing frustration among users who feel increasingly restricted by the company’s firmware policies

If HP does not swiftly address the issue, it risks further damaging customer trust and loyalty
