Islamabad, 24 April 2025: India’s cricketing authorities have reaffirmed their stance against bilateral cricket with Pakistan in the wake of a deadly attack in Pahalgam.

The incident has triggered strong condemnation from across India, including senior figures in the country’s cricket board.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-President Rajeev Shukla stated that India will continue to avoid bilateral series with Pakistan, echoing the government’s long-held position.

Speaking to Indian media, Shukla stressed that cricketing ties remain frozen due to ongoing political tensions and that this approach will not change anytime soon.

Shukla pointed out that while India refrains from bilateral fixtures, encounters in International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments still take place due to existing commitments.

He noted that the ICC is well aware of the broader political context that prevents regular bilateral engagement.

The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan took place in 2012-13.

Since then, the two sides have only competed in ICC and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events, including the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy scheduled for 2025 in Dubai.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also released a statement, condemning the Pahalgam attack in strong terms.

He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, describing the incident as a “ghastly and cowardly act.”

Saikia extended condolences to the families of the victims and reiterated the cricket community’s solidarity during this time of national mourning.

The Pahalgam tragedy has once again highlighted how wider political tensions between India and Pakistan continue to spill over into the realm of sports, keeping bilateral cricket relations at a standstill.
