Islamabad, Apr 4, 2025: Pakistani actor Fawad Khan anticipated return to Bollywood in the upcoming film Abir Gulaal, alongside Vaani Kapoor, has ignited controversy and opposition from certain political factions in India.
The film’s trailer release has intensified debates over the involvement of Pakistani artists in the Indian film industry, a topic that has remained contentious since 2016.

Maharashtra’s political parties, notably the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena, have voiced their disapproval of Khan’s participation in the film.
MNS leader Ameya Khopkar stated that the party will not permit the film’s release in Maharashtra due to Khan’s involvement, emphasizing, “We will not allow this film to release in the state.”
Similarly, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam highlighted the prevailing sentiment against Pakistani artists in India, mentioning that while some may watch such films out of curiosity, “Pakistani artists have never been able to gain widespread success in India.”
He also called for the central government to establish a clear policy regarding the participation of Pakistani artists in Indian media.
