Islamabad, Mar 14 2025: Intel has officially appointed CEO Lip-Bu Tan as its new Chief Executive Officer, filling a leadership void that lasted three months following Pat Gelsinger’s departure.

Tan will take charge on March 18, replacing interim co-CEOs David Zinsner and Michelle (MJ) Johnston Holthaus. Zinsner will return to his position as Chief Financial Officer, while Holthaus will continue leading Intel Products.

Best known for his tenure at Cadence Design Systems, where he served as CEO from 2009 to 2021, Tan played a crucial role in more than doubling the company’s revenue.

His prior experience on Intel’s board of directors from 2022 to 2024 has also provided him with insider knowledge of the company’s strategic direction.

Tan steps into his new role at a pivotal time for Intel. Following Gelsinger’s departure which, despite being officially labeled as a retirement, was reportedly influenced by the board’s loss of confidence in his turnaround strategy Intel faces critical decisions about its future.

The company has been striving to regain its leadership in semiconductor innovation while competing with industry giants like TSMC and AMD.

One of Tan’s biggest challenges will be determining whether Intel should maintain its dual focus on chip design and manufacturing or consider restructuring its foundry business.

In his first public statement as CEO Lip-Bu Tan, Tan emphasized his commitment to Intel’s revival, stating, “Together, we will work hard to restore Intel’s position as a world-class products company.

Establish ourselves as a world-class foundry, and delight our customers like never before.” He underscored the importance of fostering an engineering-driven culture and taking calculated risks to push technological boundaries.
