Islamabad, Oct 2: Iran Attack on Israel Over 300 Drones Fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles, following Israel’s ground invasion of Lebanon and the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Iran attack on Israel, which targeted multiple locations in Israel, came without any direct warning to the U.S., according to the State Department.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized that reports of Iran communicating directly with the U.S. before the attack were “absolutely false.” However, the U.S. had indications of a possible strike from other sources.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in his first public statement, stressed that the attack was in defense of Iran’s interests, while asserting that Iran does not seek war but will firmly respond to any threats.

The situation follows Israel’s offensive in Lebanon aimed at Hezbollah, which has been a major Iranian ally in the region.

Pezeshkian’s remarks warned Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu against underestimating Iran’s capabilities, signaling a willingness to act decisively if provoked further.

Six months into an Israeli-Hamas war in Gaza and amid growing risks of a greater regional war, Axios quoted a senior White House official as saying Biden also told Netanyahu the U.S. would oppose any Israeli counterattack against Iran.

Russian Deputy U.N. Ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy said on the Telegram social media app that in addition to a letter from Israel, the Security Council had received one from Iran asserting its attack was within the U.N. Charter framework governing the right to self-defence.
