Islamabad, May 4, 2025: Islamabad is currently under a fresh spell of rain, marking the start of a wet and cloudy weekend across the capital.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an official three-day rain warning for Islamabad and surrounding regions, urging residents to stay alert for potential urban flooding, slippery roads, and localized disruptions.

Compared to last week’s dry and sunny weather, this sudden shift has cooled down temperatures dramatically, dropping daytime highs from 32°C to around 25°C.

Weather experts note that this system is part of a larger western disturbance sweeping across northern Pakistan, expected to bring consistent rainfall through Sunday evening.

According to PMD data, Islamabad is likely to receive 40–60 mm of rain during this period — significantly higher than the May monthly average.

Experts warn that commuters should expect traffic delays, while low-lying areas may face water accumulation.

Emergency services have been put on high alert, and citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor travel during peak downpours.

Meteorologist Asif Raza commented, “These rains are beneficial for groundwater recharge, but the intensity can pose short-term hazards, especially in urban zones with poor drainage.”
