Islamabad, Sep 29: IST Set to Celebrate World Space Week 2024 with Focus on Space and Climate Change. World Space Week (WSW) 2024 will be observed by the Institute of Space Technology (IST) and the National Center of GIS and Space Applications (NCGSA) in October with a number of events planned.
This annual event, which is supported by the UN and observed worldwide from October 4–10, emphasizes the vital role that space science and technology will play in determining the course of humankind’s future, according to the IST.
The goal of this year’s topic, “Space and Climate Change,” is to increase public understanding of the roles that space technology plays in both climate solutions and environmental monitoring.IST has scheduled a variety of events to commemorate World Space Week from October 8–10, continuing its tradition of doing so.
The event, which is intended for students in Grades 6 through 12, will include seventy educational modules and ten categories. It will provide a variety of activities such as technology demonstrations, creative writing, space recitations, trivia, models and collectibles, performing arts, art and design, life and sustainability, and space for climate change.

The United Nations has recognized World Space Week (WSW), an international celebration from October 4–10, to honor the outstanding accomplishments in space science and technology and their significant contributions to humanity. For the past 19 years, the Institute of Space Technology (IST) has spearheaded the celebration with pride.
Since its founding in 2005, IST has provided students with an engaging environment in which to participate in contests, immersive STEM and STEAM-based activities, and practical projects that spark their interest in and enthusiasm for space exploration.In addition to inspiring young minds, this long-standing practice has helped people develop a profound understanding of the vital role that space technology plays in furthering scientific research and tackling global issues.
By supporting space education on a national level during World Space Week, IST has enabled students to be innovative, creative thinkers, and seek jobs in space science that are in line with the UN’s global vision.

October 4, 1957, saw the launch of Sputnik 1, the first satellite built by humans, and October 10, 1967, saw the signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. These events are recognized by the UN General Assembly.
