Islamabad, Jan 28: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has decided to halt work on the revised Digital Pakistan Policy, opting instead to focus on more targeted policies in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and Cybersecurity.
Officials from the IT Ministry have expressed the view that the existing Digital Nation Pakistan Bill provides a sufficient framework for the country’s digital transformation needs. As a result, they believe drafting a new, separate policy would be redundant.

The original Digital Pakistan Policy, introduced in 2018, aimed to create a structured approach for the country’s digital transformation. While there were efforts underway to update and expand the policy to address advancements in technology and new priorities, the ministry has now redirected its efforts towards more specific, sector-focused policies.
By prioritizing areas like Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain, the IT Ministry hopes to create more specialized and impactful frameworks that cater to the unique needs of these emerging technologies. The shift in strategy reflects the belief that sector-specific policies will be more effective than a broad, general policy framework for driving digital progress in the country.
