Islamabad, May 3, 2025: In a somber moment for Pakistan’s political and religious spheres, Senator Professor Sajid Mir, the Central President of Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadees, has passed away at the age of 86 due to a heart attack, his family confirmed.

Born on October 2, 1938, in Sialkot, Mir leaves behind a towering legacy shaped by decades of service, scholarship, and political resilience.

Unlike many clerics, Mir combined religious authority with a firm presence in national politics.

Educated at the University of the Punjab, Lahore, he entered the Senate in 1994, later serving uninterrupted from 2003 to 2025 under the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) banner.

Notably, he also chaired the Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology — a rare feat for a religious scholar, reflecting his multifaceted contributions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called Mir’s passing “a void that may never be filled,” lauding his firm stance against extremism and sectarianism.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz extended heartfelt condolences, while PPP spokesperson Shazia Marri noted that Mir’s parliamentary role will echo in history as a symbol of dignity and principled leadership.
