ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 20: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has implemented additional safety protocols for foreign airlines landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport due to the growing risk of monkeypox.
The CAA’s directives compel that ground handling staff and foreign airline employees wear masks at all times, and they also require airlines to provide face masks to all passengers.
Additionally, the government has highly recommended that travelers and airport employees should use hand sanitizers. Additionally, every piece of luggage from foreign arrivals must be fully sanitized.
The CAA has ordered that traveler exhibiting monkeypox symptoms be segregated in accordance with Border Health Services’ protocols.
Apart from the recently implemented regulations, Karachi Airport has intensified its health screening protocols. Passengers from over 22 flights have had medical checks performed, and thus far, no cases of monkeypox have been documented.
The Sindh Health Department’s point of contact, Dr. Zafar Mehdi, affirmed that around twenty physicians and paramedics are on duty at the airport around-the-clock. To ensure that all necessary steps are taken to protect the public’s health, special rooms have been set up to inspect any passengers suspected of harboring the virus.
