Islamabad, Dec 10: The Karachi commissioner has enforced a complete ban on pillion riding and public gatherings, including protests and rallies, in District Central from December 9 to 10. This measure, implemented under Section 144, aims to maintain peace and prevent any disturbances.

The ban was enforced following concerns raised by the Karachi Police Additional Inspector General (AIG), who noted the risk of miscreants disturbing public order. Restrictions include prohibiting gatherings of more than four people and halting pillion riding for two days.

Law enforcement has been granted authority to take action against violators. This move is seen as a precautionary step ahead of a planned event by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L), which has raised concerns due to its leadership’s involvement in anti-state activities.

Additionally, 24 MQM-L workers have been arrested for violating the ban by assembling at Jinnah Ground and Liaquat Ali Khan Chowk, as confirmed by the Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central.
