Islamabad, Sep 21: In a significant move to regulate police conduct online, Karachi’s police personnel are now barred from using social media while on duty. Following similar bans in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, this directive aims to maintain professionalism and accountability among law enforcement officers.
Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has implemented a stringent social media policy, which prohibits officers from using platforms like TikTok without prior authorization. This policy was communicated through an official letter to high-ranking officials, including Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs).
The new guidelines come after efforts by Sindh’s Inspector General, Ghulam Nabi Memon, to limit police activities on TikTok.
The directive clearly states that any content featuring police uniforms, vehicles, or equipment must receive approval before being published. Additionally, such content should only be shared through official police accounts rather than personal profiles.
Odho has set a seven-day ultimatum for officers to remove any inappropriate content currently posted on their social media accounts. This initiative seeks to align the online presence of Karachi’s police force with the newly established standards, promoting a more disciplined and professional image of the department.
