Islamabad, Oct 8: Karachi temperature likely to touch 39 degrees today

Karachi is anticipated to experience hot weather today (Tuesday), with temperatures potentially reaching 39 degrees Celsius, according to the MET office.

The Meteorological Department forecasts hot and dry weather conditions in the city over the next 24 hours. Currently, the temperature is 28°C, but sea breezes are partially suspended, leading to humidity levels of 69%.

The city’s air quality has worsened, ranking Karachi temperature as the fifth most polluted city globally, as reported by the Air Quality Index (AQI).

The concentration of particulate matter (PM2.5) in the air has been recorded at 154, which is considered hazardous to human health.

AQI experts warn that particulate matter levels between 100 and 200 pose health risks, while levels exceeding 200 are categorized as dangerous.

Earlier, the Early Warning Center of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued an advisory indicating that northwestern desert winds from Balochistan would begin impacting the city starting Monday, leading to a rise in maximum temperatures.

Additionally, due to elevated humidity levels, the heat may feel more intense than the actual temperature.

In light of the forecast, schools and workplaces may see adjustments in activities. Employers are encouraged to allow breaks and provide adequate cooling facilities to ensure the well-being of their employees. Parents should keep a close eye on children, ensuring they remain cool and drink plenty of water throughout the day.
