Islamabad, Dec 27: According to Karachi traffic police data, citizens paid a staggering Rs. 850 million in fines in 2024 for violations of traffic laws. A total of 11.57 lac challans were issued during the year.

Breakdown of Major Offenses and Penalties:

  1. Number Plate Violations:
    • 2.21 lac challans issued.
    • Fines totaled Rs. 11.93 crore.
  2. Signal Violations:
    • 1.96 lac challans issued.
    • Penalties amounted to Rs. 12.49 crore.
  3. Overloading:
    • 2 lac challans issued.
    • Fines reached Rs. 10.31 crore.
  4. No-Parking Violations:
    • 1.30 lac challans issued.
    • Fines totaled Rs. 11.57 crore.
  5. One-Way and Wrong-Way Driving:
    • 91,000 challans issued.
    • Penalties amounted to Rs. 2.02 crore.
  6. Helmetless Motorcyclists:
    • 84,000 challans issued.
    • Fines reached Rs. 4.24 crore.
  7. Other Offenses:
    • Fancy Number Plates: Rs. 5.31 crore.
    • Obstructing Traffic: Rs. 3.75 crore.
    • Vehicles Without Speedometers: Rs. 1.07 crore.

The largest revenue was collected from signal violations, while number plate violations accounted for the most challans. These statistics highlight the need for stricter enforcement and public awareness of traffic laws to ensure road safety in Karachi.
