Islamabad, Oct 17: Karachi University Students Protest Fee Hikes and Poor Campus Facilities
Karachi University Students Protest Fee Hikes for the seventh day, calling for a partial boycott of classes in response to fee increases and inadequate facilities. T
he university’s student union organized the protests, which got their start near the Administrative Block and have received a lot of support from several departments and student organizations.
The university’s administrative offices, canteens, and departmental operations—all of which are still partially closed—have been disrupted. Additionally, because students are obstructing company operations, transportation services on campus have been suspended.
The key demands from the students include:
- 50% reduction in late fee charges.
- Immediate removal of examination fees.
- Abolition of the Rs. 5,000 re-admission fees.
- Urgent repairs of broken-down buses and classroom improvements.
Protestors vow to continue their demonstrations until these issues are fully addressed, citing the persistent rise in fees and the declining quality of services provided by the university. Earlier, the students accused Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi of suspending campus bus services, forcing many to seek alternative transportation options.
Student leaders presented their official list of requests to the Vice Chancellor in response to the protests. Following talks, the student group announced that the Vice Chancellor had agreed to address some of their requests; however, demonstrations are anticipated to last until all concessions are made.
