Islamabad, Nov 13: KE’s 560 MW BQPS-II Wins Asian Power Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency Innovation. K-Electric’s 560 MW Bin Qasim Power Station II (BQPS-II) received two global awards at the Asian Power Awards 2024. The privatized utility garnered honors in two categories: Gas Power Project of the Year Pakistan and Power Plant Upgrade of the Year Pakistan.

The infrastructure enhancements in the project improve the availability and reliability of the high-efficiency power plant, which became part of KE’s generation fleet following a USD 4 billion investment across the value chain after privatization.

The company upgraded the project’s infrastructure to support the use of RLNG as a secondary fuel while also decreasing auxiliary load demands. As a result, the plant’s net efficiency has been enhanced, providing greater operational flexibility to meet the increasing demands of the city.

These improvements emphasize BQPS-II’s position as a leader in the power generation field and serve as a model for sustainable and resilient energy solutions in Pakistan. The Asian Power Awards are recognized as one of the most esteemed honors in the energy sector, celebrating organizations that have introduced innovative and transformative practices to tackle the growing energy demands while promoting sustainability.

KE’s achievement places it alongside prominent international entities such as Dubai Electric and Water Authority (DEWA) and China Resources Power Holding Company Limited, which supplies approximately 80 GW of electricity in China.

KE’s recognition at this event highlights its role as a progressive energy provider, spearheading advanced technological solutions that yield substantial advantages for both consumers and the environment.KE’s commitment to embracing state-of-the-art technologies has been crucial in upgrading its operations. The company recently received NEPRA’s ruling on its generation tariff petition for the period following 2023. Although this determination will not influence the rates charged to customers, it marks a significant step toward achieving its USD 2 billion investment plan through 2030.

Furthermore, the company has recently completed a competitive bidding process for 640 MW of renewable energy projects in Balochistan and Sindh, which presented the country’s lowest tariff bid for renewable energy generation.

These initiatives fall under KE’s Power Acquisition Program (PAP), which aims to inject 1300 MW of renewable energy into its power production capabilities to further enhance sustainability.

We continue to investigate ways to push the boundaries of innovation, ensuring a reliable and economical power supply to our customers. While electricity pricing falls under federal jurisdiction, we aspire to utilize our resources to enhance efficiency and lower production costs while increasing the available electricity supply.
