Islamabad, Mar 17 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa women’s lacrosse team, who recently clinched the Okinawa Open Lacrosse Championship in Japan, met with Governor Faisal Karim Kundi at the Governor House in Peshawar.
The team, consisting of five members, was led by Captain Gul Pari, and included players Momina Tariq, Laiba Rasheed, Sughra Sattar, and Muqaddas Tariq. During the meeting, the players shared details about their efforts to promote lacrosse in the region and voiced their desire for the sport to receive official recognition at the national level.
The team explained that they competed independently, without official support, in the Okinawa Championship, which saw the participation of 12 teams.
After a challenging series of matches, they secured a victory in the final, overcoming South Korea to win the title.
The players also sought the Governor’s support for their participation in the upcoming Asia Lacrosse Tournament in Saudi Arabia, scheduled for October.
Governor Kundi congratulated the team on their outstanding achievement, highlighting that their success showcased the immense talent and dedication of female athletes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He further stated that this victory would inspire young women across the province, motivating them to engage more actively in sports.
