Islamabad, Sep 5: All model highways in Lahore are now off-limits to helmet-free motorcycle riders, and enforcement measures have been strengthened with the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The spokesperson for the traffic police stated that there will be no tolerance for motorcycle riders who do not have helmets on routes such as The Mall, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Canal Road, Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, and other routes in Cantt.
The Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued orders to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Ammara Athar, directing her to step up the enforcement of helmet infractions. In addition to physical inspections, an AI system has been implemented to police helmet laws. AI surveillance produced 202,957 challans in the last month alone, whilst manual enforcement produced 249,684 tickets.
The crackdown goes after riders who don’t wear helmets or who wear them incorrectly, such dangling them from an arm or putting them on the gas tank. These guidelines are to be scrupulously followed by divisional and circle officers, and sector in-charges who do not comply risk dire consequences.
The overall purpose of the effort is to enhance public safety and prevent traffic accidents; CTO Ammara Athar observed that there has already been a discernible decrease in head injury occurrences.
