Islamabad, Oct 15: Lahore College for Women University Suspends Senior Official Over Harassment Allegations

A senior official was suspended from his position by the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) following a student’s accusation of harassment.

This action was taken in response to a wave of demonstrations on campus by students who were upset with how the administration had handled their accusations of harassment.

Following a formal complaint from a student, the administration took action, initiating an investigation and suspending the implicated official in order to maintain openness.

A spokesman for the institution stated that the suspension was required to provide time for an objective investigation.

A special committee has been established to look into the claims of harassment and render an impartial decision.

The students who are protesting want to carry out their demonstrations in spite of these measures. There will be a bigger demonstration on Tuesday.

The university administration responded by declaring a municipal holiday, citing ongoing campus renovation. Many, though, think that this action was taken to quell the mounting student rebellion.
