Islamabad, Nov 29: Lahore Enforces Strict Vehicle Ban to Combat Smog Crisis. The Punjab government has implemented a three-day, Friday–Sunday, total restriction on heavy vehicle entry into Lahore in an attempt to address the city’s escalating smog issue. Improving air quality and lowering pollution are the goals of the restriction.
Heavy vehicles, such as loader trolleys and other large trucks, will not be permitted to enter the city at this time, according to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar. Vehicles with significant smoke emissions or those without a current fitness certificate are also prohibited.
Under the direction of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), law enforcement personnel would be positioned at 12 strategic points of entry and departure into Lahore to guarantee that the prohibition is properly adhered to. Amara Athar stressed that although the majority of vehicles are forbidden, buses, passenger cars, and those carrying necessities like food and medication will be exempt.
The administration has stated unequivocally that it is doing all within its power to implement this prohibition. Athar emphasized that everyone’s efforts are required to limit pollution and safeguard public health, and he asked truckers to work with the authorities. “To eradicate smog and enhance the quality of life for the people of Lahore, we must work together,” she stated.
In order to lower pollution levels and guarantee a healthier environment for its residents, the Lahore Traffic Police have also begun a crackdown on vehicles that emit harmful smoke. Thousands of vehicles have already been fined or impounded for breaking the city’s smog regulations, and 41 anti-smog squads have been sent in to conduct inspections and enforce compliance.
