ISLAMABAD, JULY 13: The Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) Lahore’s Managing Director, Muhammad Ghafran, reported that Lahore had its most rainfall in thirty years on Friday. After a protracted period of intense heat and humidity, Punjab saw torrential rains last week, which provided much-needed relief as the province’s temperatures plummeted and cold winds came through.
Speaking to a private news program, Ghafran stated that WASA employees were occupied with citywide drainage projects. He disclosed that the area with the most rainfall, Tajpura, received 315 mm. In addition, Lakshmi Chowk saw 101 mm of rain, compared to 99 mm and 98 mm in Mughalpura and Gulshan Ravi, respectively. The airport region saw 59 mm, Paniwala Talab saw 71 mm, and Cordoba Chowk saw 70 mm.
88 mm were reported at Chowk Nakhuda, 75 mm in Iqbal Town, 70 mm at Cordoba Chowk once more, and 65 mm in Samanabad. 51 mm was reported in Upper Mall, 49 mm in Samanabad, 41 mm in Gulberg, 40 mm in Nishtar Town, 38 mm in Jail Road, and 35 mm in Farrukhabad. 315 mm of rain fell in Tajpura, more than the 291 mm record set in Lakshmi Chowk last year.
Rainwater caused serious problems in Shah Jamal, Lakshmi Chowk, and Davis Road despite efforts.Ghafran stated, “We are closely monitoring the drainage operation to minimize the impact on residents,” as reassurance that WASA and provincial officials were actively attempting to control the problem.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), on the other hand, predicted that the next 24 hours would bring further rain, possibly thunderstorms, and strong winds to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, north-east/central Punjab, the Potohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and north-east Balochistan. It indicated that the Divisions of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Lahore would get moderate to severe rain.
